100% Pinot Noir made from select grapes grown in estate vineyards. After controlled fermentation, the wine continued extended skin contact for an additional six days to maximize aromatics and colour. It was then carefully aged in oak barriques. Don Francisco Undurraga was among Chile's winemaking pioneers. In 1885, he personally brought vines from France and Germany to plant on his estate 34 kilometers from Santiago, in the heart of the Maipo Valley. Traces of the original estate still exist today on the Maipo property. The winery has been a pioneer in exploring the emergent Chilean valleys of Colchagua and Leyda, rigorously studying the different types of soils, climates, and matching them to the physiological behavior of the varieties.
"A fruity and straightforward red with strawberry and lemon character, medium body and a clean and fresh finish. Drink now."
Top 100 Wines of 2017 "Juicy, dependable, silky. A truly dependable Pinot, modern and just a little flamboyant, the Sibaris doles out sweet raspberry, sarsaparilla, tea leaf and baking spices with a generous splash of violet aromas. It has sweet and juicy fruit on the palate, it is silky and spicy with an attractive plush weight. Crowd-pleaser."
20 Under $20 in BC "For the juicy lamb burgers on the menu, a glass of gutsy, fragrant Undurraga 2014 Sibaris Pinot Noir Gran Reserva is just the ticket. I believe this to be one of the best value pinots on the planet."
"This Leyda Valley pinot noir opens with roasted branch and tar, carrying through to a sweeter, ripe, black and red fruited body. Earthy mushrooms, roasted red pepper and poultry spice dominate the fleshy palate, overshadowing the warm, round fruit. The finish is shorter and warm. Certainly much more old school Chile than finessed pinot, but would suit hearty beef or pork stews."
"Pinot Noir is one of the grapes that seems to sit well with those bothered by red wines, likely because it tends to be low in tannins and histamines. The challenge with Pinot is that most decent examples are upwards of $30 which makes this Chilean wine an appealing option that is remarkably good for the price. It is soft and juicy with vibrant raspberry flavours and a touch of classic Pinot spice. It would go well with charcuterie and hard ripened cheese."
