"There’s an inviting, fresh feel to the mixed berry and plum fruit on the nose and palate. Medium-bodied with a lightly firm but silky feel, turning tighter at the end. Sangiovese and cabernet sauvignon. Drink or hold."

"The powerfully umami nose draws balance from a strawberry undertone and a dash of salt and pepper. That combination of earthiness, salt and strawberries continues on the palate, with an acidic fizziness adding some playfulness."

"Tommasi has 110 years experience growing Cabernet Sauvignon in Toscana. The tradition continues here in Maremma, in Toscana's southwest corner. This 60/40 mix of Sangiovese / Cabernet Sauvignon comes off the Pitigliano estate, with soils rich in calcium carbonate tufa. The wine is stainless fermented and aged 1 year in large 65hL Slavonian casks. Ample sticky and blocky tannins frame ripe cherry, sarsaparilla, and perfumed raspberry across the medium bodied palate. Rustic-hewn, this would be best with braised meats / root veg." - Treve Ring

"A savoury wine it offers cherries and clay, smoked meat and charred spices, red and black wild berries and salted licorice aromas. The palate is an echo of the nose; toast leather, bacon fat and very faint mixed wild berry flavours. It's quite muscular and brooding but also fresh."
2019 -
"A linear red, with mingling smoky cherry, raspberry, woodsy underbrush and iron notes. Fresh and long, with a hint of chocolate on the dusty finish. Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2026. 33,000 cases made, 7,000 cases imported."

"Ripe and plummy with a pleasant red-licorice note on the nose. Medium-bodied with a silky, spicy fruit core that pushes and pushes through the long finish, thanks to some citrusy acidity. The fine tannins play a good, supporting role. A delicious blend of sangiovese and cabernet sauvignon."

"A 60/40 mix of sangiovese and cabernet sauvignon is grown on the Pitigliano estate. Expect ripe aromas of black and red fruits with dried thyme, rosemary, and baking spices. The palate is weighty with smoke, rich dark plum, and black currant cut with black raspberries wrapped in round, supple tannins, finishing vibrant. It is aged in for 12 months in 65 hl Slavonian oak casks. The alcohol is a modest 13 percent. It is the flagship wine of the Poggio al Tufo project, the first wine the Tommasi family made in the Maremma. Bistecca Fiorentina or a mushroom wild boar dish would be a good match. Good value."

"Firm, raspy tannins frame flavors of red cherry and raspberry, that primary fruit warmed by notes of cassis that lend a slick richness to the wine."
2017 -
"Satisfying, plush, supple. Owned by the Tommasi family since 1997; Tommasi owns estates in Valpolicella, Montalcio, Lombardy, Basilicata and Puglia. Rompicollo is made from Cabernet and Sangiovese. It has strong earthy undertones and fragrant overtones of blueberry and black raspberry, star anise and pipe tobacco, leather, carob and charred cedar. It has sweet expressive fruit to mimic the nose and a plush character; it is concentrated, the texture is slick. A wonderfully satisfying red trailing chocolate and coffee flavours."
2017 -
"Fresh blueberries, violets and a touch of white chocolate, as well as brambles and herbs. Medium-bodied and quite edgy with intense acidity. Juicy and round on the finish, though. Drink now."

"Tommasi Poggio Al Tufo Rompicollo 2017 is a full-bodied red blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes sourced from the Tuscany wine region. Fresh on the nose with wild blueberry, cassis, violets, lavender, mocha, dried herb flavours with racy acidity on the palate. Tannins are velvety and rounding. Enjoy now with a triple-cheesy pizza."

"Slightly less rustic but no less enjoyable, the Poggio al Tufo 2017 Rompicollo rosso (Tuscany, Italy - $19.99, Liquor Marts and beyond) is a 60-40 red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese from Italy's warmer Tuscany region. Lovely licorice and raspberry aromas accompany cassis, herbal and black cherry notes. On the medium-plus-bodied palate it picks up some more hearty, Old World spice and earth notes to accompany the red/dark berry, herbal and peppery note, while underlying eucalyptus, black olive and licorice notes add complexity. Drink now with a slightly spicy pizza. 4/5"

"A blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, this easygoing red has aromas of iris, underbrush band and Mediterranean scrub. The juicy palate delivers Marasca cherry, white pepper and tobacco alongside velvety tannins. It's made to be drunk young so enjoy soon."
2015 -
"Sangiovese and cabernet sauvignon are combined and each really get their say, first in leather and cherry and then, ribena and Cassis. Though the acidity is mild the tart edging and grippy finale put this in mind of pure Toscana bones with international flesh. Should have great appeal. Drink 2018-2019. Tasted March 2018."

"A rich red for the vintage with chocolate, berry and walnut character. Medium to full body, soft tannins and a flavorful finish. Sangiovese and cabernet sauvignon. Drink now."

"The 2014 Poggio al Tufo Rompicollo is a 60/40 sangiovese? cabernet sauvignon blend that made the top 100 Spectator picks from a 18,000-strong pool of wines. The nose is clean with scents of meaty black fruits followed by rich red and black fruit mixed with leather and spice that fade into a supple, warm, mineral finish. Rompicollo is an official ambassador of Tuscany’s Maremma district and its name refers to the "neck breaking," labour required to farm Maremma’s volcanic tufa-rich soils. Pork is a terrific match."

"Tommasi Poggio al Tufo's 2013 Rompicollo is a Tuscan blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine opens to deep, rich nuances with black cherry, plum and red currant. It also shows evident oak influences with cinnamon and dark vanilla stick that sit heavy over the dark fruit. Rompicollo delivers sweet tannins and simple lines overall. This is an easy-drinking red to enjoy in the near term."
