Bright ruby.
Perfumed red cherry and strawberry aromas are complicated by minerals and botanical herbs.
Medium bodied. Brambly rosemary, thyme and woodsy spice notes lead to high-toned raspberry, blood orange zest and liquorice flavours.
Try this with beef brisket, smoked pork or rabbit stew.
The vineyards are located at 450/600 mt above sea level. Vinification is done in the classic style, grapes are treaded and destemmed, maceration occurs on the skins in stainless steel for 10 days at 25/28 °c, during this period several pumping overs and delestages are carried out. The wine is finished 80% in large Slavonia oak barrels and 20% in French barriques. Further bottle ageing occurs for 7/8 months.

"The 2020 Aglianico del Vulture Synthesi is dark and rich in the glass, with mentholated herbs giving way to plum sauce, medicinal black cherries, hints of undergrowth and dark chocolate. This is velvety in feel with cooling acidity to balance. Ripe red and black fruits swirl throughout, maintaining a mouthwatering freshness. The 2020 tapers off with a web of fine tannins and notes of clove that add a lovely bitter sensation toward the close. This is a beautifully balanced rendition of Pasternoster's Synthesi."
2019 -
"The 2019 Aglianico del Vulture Synthesi opens with a classic nose of musky black fruits, leather tones and ash. It’s round in feel with cooling acid and mineral tones that give way to tart wild berry fruits."
2018 -
"The 2018 Aglianico del Vulture Synthesi is dark and brooding in the glass, mixing black currants with flowery underbrush, ash and nuances of blood orange. It washes across the palate, pure and lifted in style, with nervous acidity that further accelerates the expression, as mentholated herbal tones give way to tart wild blueberries. The 2018 tapers off with tension while taking on more of a floral profile, and it leaves the palate pleasantly refreshed. While I don’t find the tannic heft and power typically associated with Aglianico here, this vintage of Synthesi will make for an excellent option for near-term drinking."
2018 -
"Notes of dark chocolate and warm spice enrich flavors of black cherry and grilled game. Pair this bold wine with roasted pork shoulder."
2017 -
"Bright medium red-ruby color. Perfumed nose offers red cherry, rose, violet and spicy oak. Juicy, spicy and inky, with nicely concentrated sour red cherry fruit and graphite nuances lifted by a floral element. A peppery, wild hint extends the firm finish, which shows a very restrained sweetness and a youthfully chewy texture. This struck me as much better (more graceful and riper) than the 2016 Synthesi."
2017 -
"Mouthwatering acidity and a subtly smoky, minerally underpinning focus the rich notes of plumped cherry, red licorice, coffee liqueur and orange peel in this harmonious, medium- to full-bodied red. Light, taut tannins firm the spiced finish. Drink now through 2027. 2,916 cases made, 300 cases imported."
2017 -
"Faded redcurrants, mahogany and tar are the driving factors here. Medium-bodied and quite fresh, this red lacks a bit of oomph and density, yet delivers a taut, mouthwatering offering."
2016 -
"Extremely complex with fresh herbs and spices, such as cloves and black pepper, as well as a lot of ripe fruit. But always in check. Full-bodied, chewy and flavorful. Needs two or three years to soften, but should come together nicely. Try in 2021."
2016 -
"The well-priced 2016 Aglianico del Vulture Synthesi is a streamlined and immediate wine to enjoy within the next five years or so. The wine shows purity and focus with dark fruit aromas of dried cherry and blackcurrant followed by spice, tar and scorched earth. It shows a mid-weight approach with some mild tannic firmness and balanced acidity."
2015 -
"Dark plums, licorice, treacle, chocolate-glazed cherries, blackberry compote and hints of meat and spices form the nose of this aglianico. Medium body, grainy tannins, plenty of dark, chocolately fruit and a medium finish. Minerally style. Drink in 2020."
