The name highlights the character of this wine made from the vineyards near the Vulcano Vulture. The freshness, balminess and delicacy typical of the Falanghina grape are brought into perfect harmony from the bright generosity exclusive to Southern Italy. The grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks for 10 days and remain in contact with the lees for approximately 5 months.

"The Vulture volcano is home to only a handful of white wines, and many of these are made with red grapes fermented off the skins. The 2017 Falanghina Vulcanico is almost unique in this context because it is made with the versatile Falanghina grape that is so popular in the neighboring region of Campania. This expression is mild in terms of bouquet with neutral aromas of white peach and grapefruit. There are distant hints of green olive as well. The mouthfeel is lean, although it does offer some glycerine-driven thickness on the close.
A few years back, Vito Paternoster and his family took on outside investors for joint ownership of this leading estate in Barile on the Vulture volcano. That investor is the Tommasi Family Estates in Valpolicella, Veneto (Northern Italy). This powerhouse marriage should succeed in giving Paternoster more visibility domestically and abroad. Tommasi owns estates in Lombardy, Tuscany and Puglia (in addition to Valpolicella, of course). Founded in 1925, Paternoster makes some of the most interesting wines in Southern Italy, and the estate (with 90 hectares of vineyards on the volcano) is a true gem."
