Stemmari is a major winemaker of Sicily, where it produces wines from both native and international varietals, with a ruthless focus on keeping costs down.
This substantial Sicilian estate is based on the windy south coast. It has two large vineyard areas, covering almost 700 hectares in total, situated at Sambuca di Sicilia in the west and Ragusa in the east. The grape varieties are each planted in separate blocks, and are used to produce a range of single-varietal wines in the state-of-the-art, temperature-controlled winery.

"Deep ruby-red. The expressive nose offers very sweet aromas and flavors of ripe dark berries, plum jelly, violet pastille and strawberry-rhubarb pie. Savory and intense, but nicely lifted by saline minerality and a floral nuance. Finishes smoothly tannic but not dry, with noteworthy persistence. This wine's intensely candied, almost sweet quality may not be for everyone. An 80 percent Nero d'Avola and 20 percent Cabernet Sauvignon blend that spent 12 months in French oak barrels."
