Straw yellow with green reflections.
Intense and persistent bouquet of delicate white flowers, lemon and peach.
Bright and tangy, with delicate notes of white flowers and fruit. Fresh and balanced, with a clean finish.
Try this with a spinach and strawberry salad, pan seared sable fish or just as an aperitif.
The name highlights the character of this wine made from the vineyards near the Vulcano Vulture. The freshness, balminess and delicacy typical of the Falanghina grape are brought into perfect harmony from the bright generosity exclusive to Southern Italy. The grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks for 10 days and remain in contact with the lees for approximately 5 months.

"The sweetly floral 2023 Falanghina Vulcanico lifts from the glass with a dusting of confectionary spice and mint, giving way to yellow apples and hints of chamomile. It's soothingly round, with soft textures and honeyed inner florals that cascade across a core of citrus-tinged green melon. Medium in length, it finishes with a lasting note of candied citrus—wonderfully fresh."

"Floral nose with hints of fresh herbs, such as sage, and ripe citrus. Medium-bodied with a very tight and focused palate and a light phenolic grip at the end. Drink now."

BEST BUY. "A nose that transports immediately to the seaside with salt air, seaweed, crushed rocks and sand. Lemon and orange zest roll onto a palate that's bright but dense with more citrus and the sweetness of almond paste, before a salty lick of a rock on the finish."
2022 -
"More savory than sweet, the 2022 Falanghina Vulcanico lifts from the glass with a burst of crushed stone and sour citrus, giving way to young peach. This is round, nearly glycerol in feel, with texturally ripe orchard fruits and a salty twang that comes forward toward the close. The 2022 lingers long, leaving a potent staining of mineral-tinged apricot and tangerine that slowly fade."

"With a drawing of a volcano on the front label, the Paternoster 2022 Falanghina Vulcanico shows extra volume and texture with orchard fruit, honey and pine nut. The fruit is open-knit ... resulting in a touch of creaminess to close."

WINE ENTHUSIAST'S TOP 100 BEST BUYS OF 2023. "A nose of fresh peach slices spritzed with lemon gets a salty, savory boost from notes of tire and pavement, while the palate is fruitier and juicier, with a delicate, flowery finish."

"Wet stone, a spritz of lime and crushed yellow apple form an attractive bouquet as the 2021 Falanghina Vulcanico blossoms in the glass. It’s round and pliant in feel with saline-tinged orchard fruits that add a savory twist. Nuances of tropical melon and pretty inner florals linger as the 2021 finishes long yet crisply refreshing. Well done."

Hints of smoke accent flavors of grilled lemon and peach in this rich and savory volcanic white. For charbroiled chicken and veggies.
2020 -
"The 2020 Falanghina Vulcanico opens with a sweetly tropical bouquet of pineapples, mangos and freshly sliced vanilla bean. It’s round, verging on opulent in feel, yet held nicely together through a core of vibrant acidity and sour green citrus fruits. A herbal twang lingers, along with a salty flourish, as the 2020 finishes long with a lingering hint of lime zest."

"Lean and lemony, juicy with a subtle, smoky vibrancy and delicate acidity, leading to a precise finish. Basilicata is a red wine region, but from its volcanic soils can spring some deliciously drinkable whites, too. Here, the Tommasi family of Valpolicella fame shows the potential for Falanghina, which has much affinity for volcanic soils, whether in Basilicata or in Campania's Campi Flegrei."
2019 -
"Cooked lemon, pear, dried flowers and lime peel on the nose. It's medium-bodied with biting acidity. Tangy, herbed finish. Drink now."
2018 -
"Aromas of cooked lemons and sliced apples follow through to a full body with lemon-peel flavor and a hint of lavender. Fruity finish. Drink now."

"The Vulture volcano is home to only a handful of white wines, and many of these are made with red grapes fermented off the skins. The 2017 Falanghina Vulcanico is almost unique in this context because it is made with the versatile Falanghina grape that is so popular in the neighboring region of Campania. This expression is mild in terms of bouquet with neutral aromas of white peach and grapefruit. There are distant hints of green olive as well. The mouthfeel is lean, although it does offer some glycerine-driven thickness on the close.
A few years back, Vito Paternoster and his family took on outside investors for joint ownership of this leading estate in Barile on the Vulture volcano. That investor is the Tommasi Family Estates in Valpolicella, Veneto (Northern Italy). This powerhouse marriage should succeed in giving Paternoster more visibility domestically and abroad. Tommasi owns estates in Lombardy, Tuscany and Puglia (in addition to Valpolicella, of course). Founded in 1925, Paternoster makes some of the most interesting wines in Southern Italy, and the estate (with 90 hectares of vineyards on the volcano) is a true gem."
