Quinta do Piloto

Palmela, Portugal

The history of Quinta do Piloto spans four generations of the Cardoso family, beginning with Humberto da Silva Cardoso, a visionary entrepreneur who, after returning from Brazil in 1900, married into a prominent Palmela wine family, built one of Portugal’s first transport companies, and later invested its profits into vineyards and wineries that established the family’s winemaking legacy. His sons, Rui and Álvaro, expanded the estate into one of the region’s largest producers, and Álvaro became known for his contributions to Palmela, including bringing piped water to the town. The next generation, led by agronomist Humberto, nurtured the dream of bottling their own wines, which finally came to life in 2008 when Filipe Cardoso created the modern Quinta do Piloto project, showcasing exceptional small-batch wines born from a century of family expertise.
