El Bonhomme was created as a new easy concept wine for a younger generation eager to learn and discover the complex world of wine through messages that define our time and youth: travel (viaja), feel (siente) and imagine (imagina).
The new generation wine lover is all about links, communication and contacts. The red button is the link between the three feelings of the El Bonhomme and moreover projects the recycled "vintage" feeling of well being. El Bonhomme is made by Nathalie Bonhomme and Rafael Cambra at the Rafael Cambra Winery in Valencia Province.
2022 -
"A simple and fruity red made from cabernet sauvignon and monastrell with some sour cherries, dark plums and flowers to the nose. Firm and medium-bodied on the palate with some light but chewy tannins and an easy, brambly finish. Crunchy and concise. Drink now."
2021 -
"A spicy red, full of Mediterranean herbs, currants and red cherries. Medium-bodied and juicy with plenty of spiced red berries on the palate. Firm, slightly chewy and rather short. Cabernet sauvignon and monastrell. Drink in 2023."
2020 -
"Plums, dark cherries, mushrooms and baking spices on the nose. Medium-bodied with sleek tannins and fresh acidity. Juicy and fruity with a silky texture and a spicy finish. A blend of cabernet sauvignon and monastrell. Drink now."
2019 -
"A balanced, fruity wine with plenty of blueberry and hints of orange peel. Some mineral, too. It’s full-bodied with tight tannins that are fine and approachable. Drink now."
2019 -
"The 2019 El Bonhomme Imagina is a 50/50 blend of Monastrell and Cabernet Sauvignon from Valencia and produced by Rafael Cambra. It fermented in small stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts and spent six months in a combination of 10,000-liter oak foudres and used barriques. It's fruit-driven, clean, juicy and easy to drink, with a medium-bodied palate, fine tannins and good freshness. 80,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2020."
2018 -
"A very attractive, ripe and juicy feel with rich raspberries and red plums, set amid deeply juicy and fresh tannins. Drink now."
2017 -
"Brambly, ripe summer berries with layers of light, bright and crisp tannin. This has fresh and punchy appeal. Drink now."
2017 -
"Valencia 2017, El Bonhomme, Nathalie Bonhomme, Spain red, $18.75, SAQ # 11157185. If you want a richer, more powerful wine, this is one with class. Powerful fruit, but with grippy tannin, good acidity and a hint of smoky spice on the finish. Not the most complex wine, but solid bang for your buck. Grape varieties: monastrell, cabernet sauvignon. Residual sugar: 2 g/L. Serve at: 18 C. Drink now-2021. Food pairing idea: braised lamb."
2016 -
"The red 2016 El Bon Homme is a 50/50 blend of Monastrell and Cabernet Sauvignon from a dry and early harvest fermented in small vats and matured in used 225-liter French barriques. I found some blurry aromas, something earthy and organic, an animal touch with hints of shoe polish, graphite and licorice. The palate showed some rusticity and a dry and somehow bitter finish. 50,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2017."
2016 -
"Rosehip and dried rose petals, wild raspberry and cassis fruit aromas and flavours that are fresh and brambly. Drink now."
2015 -
"The obviously young 2015 El Bon Homme is a blend of Monastrell with 40% Cabernet Sauvignon that feels very primary and fruit-driven, with notes of juicy berries and no influence from the four months in used 225-liter oak barrels. The palate is light and fluid, pleasant, accessible and fresh, very easy to drink. 45,000 bottles were filled in April 2016.
Rafael Cambra is slowly fine tuning his wines, which show very good value, regional character and increased drinkability—as they feel fresher and less marked by the ageing in oak."
2015 -
"Spanish red partly made with Cabernet Sauvignon (60 percent), the rest being Monastrell. No vegetal note (pepper) in this concentrated red without being too hefty, with a good tannic structure and full of freshness. Could surely win again rest two or three years. Excellent value for money! October 2016"
2012 -
"Juicy acidity and light, firm tannins give this red a focused, balanced structure, showcasing lively flavours of black cherry, liquorice, mineral and smoke. Graceful, but has intensity and drive. Drink now through 2022. 6000 cases made."
